On the last weekend of January, from the 26th to the 28th, the Málaga Fair and Congress Center (FYCMA) will host the eleventh edition of Retro Málaga, the most prominent Classic Vehicle, Vintage and Collection Show in the south of the Iberian Peninsula.
This annual event will bring together prominent exponents from the world of classic vehicles, exhibiting everything from impressive two- and four-wheeled jewels to stands specialized in spare parts, accessories, gifts and sales areas.
With a total of 11,000 m² of exhibition space and more than 6,000 m² of covered parking, Retro Malaga It promises to be a highly attractive event, presenting models that span all eras.
One of the most captivating aspects of the room is, without a doubt, the classic parking area. In this space, enthusiasts come with their own vehicles, thus contributing to the exhibition and creating a vibrant atmosphere that delights the fans.
This unique aspect of the event adds a special touch to the gathering, where enthusiasts can share their love for the classics and be an active part of the Retro Malaga experience.
First Málaga Retro Elegance Contest
As a first in this edition, the event will present the “I Málaga Retro Elegance Contest”, with the participation of 15 vehicles distributed in three categories:
Prewar (1900-1940)
– Packard 1604 Super Eight de 1938.
– Pierce Arrow 143 de 1930.
– Daimler-Benz Targa Florio (recreation) from 1919.
– Fiat 514 from 1930.
– Buick Eight Series 60 de 1939.
Postwar (1941-1970)
– Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith de 1949.
– Mercedes-Benz 220 B from 1960.
– MG TD de 1952.
– Volkswagen Beetle 1200 from 1956.
– Austin-Healey 3000 from 1965.
Classics (1971-1993)
– Porsche 911 SC “Turbo Look” de 1981.
– Porsche 930 Turbo S Flatnose de 1984.
– Mercedes W107 500SL de 1985.
– Seat 124 Sport 1800 from 1974.
– Daimler DS 420 from 1971.
A specialized jury will evaluate different nuances of the participating vehicles, such as: the condition of the exterior or interior, the cleanliness of the engine or the sound, among many other aspects.
The jury’s decision will be on Friday the 26th at 6:30 p.m., resulting in three different winners for each category.
More than a hundred exhibitors will fill the halls of FYCMA
The long-awaited Retro Málaga 2024 exhibition area is preparing to receive a hundred exhibitors, guaranteeing a display of high-quality vehicles that will delight fans and visitors.
In this edition, the selection will include outstanding models from the Automobile and Fashion Museum of Malaga, among which iconic pieces such as the elegant Jaguar XK120 Coupé, the imposing Cadillac Eldorado and the distinguished Tatra T87 stand out.
But one of the undisputed stars will be Porsche, which will steal the spotlight thanks to Aurelio Villanueva’s private collection. Ten impressive vehicles “made in” Stuttgart will be on display, including gems such as the 1964 Porsche 356 SC, the 1968 Porsche 912 Coupé, and the iconic 1976 Porsche 911 930 Turbo, to name just a few. The presence of this exclusive collection will add a touch of class to the event, consolidating it as a privileged showcase for lovers of the German brand.
In addition, Retro Málaga will pay a special tribute to the iconic SEAT Ibiza, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024. The event will have a stand dedicated exclusively to this model, where three fascinating versions will be exhibited: a Street from 1988, a 1.2 CRONO from 3 doors from 1989, and a Friend from 1993. This exhibition will be a tribute to the history and enduring influence of the SEAT Ibiza in the automotive world. Retro Málaga 2024 thus promises to immerse visitors on a journey through automotive history, combining elegance, innovation and passion for the classics.
Tribute to Juan Manuel Gómez Ponce
In a gesture of recognition of his outstanding career, Retro Málaga 2024 will pay tribute to Juan Manuel Gómez Ponce on Saturday the 27th at 7:00 p.m. A fundamental figure in the field of motorsport. From his foray as a driver to his role as organizer and commissioner since 1992, Gómez Ponce has left an undeniable mark on the development of Andalusian motorsport.
Currently, he holds the position of Test Race Director of the Spanish Off-Road Championship, among other responsibilities that demonstrate his deep commitment to the world of motorsport. His contribution and leadership in the sector position him as an outstanding reference, and this tribute at Retro Málaga is a well-deserved recognition of his dedication and passion that have left their mark on the automotive community.
Parallel activities
As always happens, another of the great points of interest at the Show will be its diverse classic parking lot, where all visitors who come to Retro Málaga will meet at the wheel of their own classic vehicle.
This parking will be divided into two areas, interior and exterior, and only vehicles at least 30 years old will be able to access it with their respective tickets, which will be on sale online and at the main box office of the venue during the event. Attendees will be able to enjoy a discount on said ticket for a maximum of two occupants per vehicle.
Taking advantage of the celebration of Retro Málaga 2024, different clubs and associations of friends of classic vehicles have also organized different concentrations. Thus, during the weekend several rallies are planned, among which we can highlight Ferrari, Mitsubishi, SEAT 124 or American cars, among others.
