Super Mario, Tetris, Pokémon and Pac-Man, games you may have played in the past. Do you miss that time? Then you’re in luck, there is a (retro) gaming fair in Hoogeveen in October. The first in Drenthe.
Sports hall Het Activum should become a paradise for gamers if it is up to the organization. Visitors can enjoy 149 tables full of (old) game consoles, games, card games and toys. Buying, exchanging and testing, it’s all possible.
The idea comes from Hoogeven resident Michael Steenbergen (33), himself addicted to everything that has to do with gaming. “My studio and home office now have a beautiful museum-worthy collection.”
Old Nintendo game consoles, such as Gameboys and Gamecubes, can be found in display cases. “During my youth I played on it a lot, when I started puberty I had a dip, but after that I really started collecting.” He now has 48, plus hundreds of games.
“The oldest thing I have is from 1983. A Game & Watch Tabletop from Nintendo, a kind of predecessor to the Gameboy,” he explains. “Most people probably don’t know that. They are more familiar with the game consoles that came later, such as the NES, where you pressed a kind of cassette into it.”
