Retiring from Alibaba, Jack Ma changes gears to the culinary business

Jack Ma has retired from Ali Baba since 2019 and now he has a new activity. Previously known as a senior citizen in the technology sector, Ma has now switched to the culinary business.

Ma reportedly just founded the company ‘Hangzhou Ma’s Kitchen Food’ on Wednesday (22/11). This company was founded in Hangzhou City, Jack Ma’s hometown and Alibaba’s headquarters.

This company has registered capital of 10 million yuan or around Rp. 21.6 billion. The company is wholly owned by Hangzhou Dajingtou No.22 Arts and Culture, Ma’s investment company.

Hangzhou Ma’s Kitchen Food’s main business is selling prepackaged food as well as processing and retailing agricultural products, as quoted from the South China Morning Post, Monday (27/11/2023).

After founding Hangzhou Ma’s Kitchen Food, Ma seems to want to join in enlivening the ready-to-eat food industry which is currently trending in China. The ready-to-eat industry in China is predicted to reach sales of up to 510 billion yuan this year.

Ma became interested in the world of agriculture after his business was skinned by the Chinese government because his comments regarding the financial system and regulations in 2020 made the Chinese government furious.

This 59 year old man disappeared from public view for two years, and now only occasionally appears in public. He uses his free time to travel around the world while learning about agricultural technology.

In October 2021, Ma studied agriculture and technology related to environmental issues in Spain. He has also visited the Netherlands, Japan and Thailand to study agricultural technology.

Hangzhou Ma’s Kitchen Food is just one of the many new entities established Jack Ma in the agricultural sector. Last July, Ma was revealed to be the mastermind behind a fisheries and agriculture startup called ‘1.8 Metres Marine Technology’.
