The payment of the Easter supplement for pensioners started today. They will receive BGN 70, regardless of the amount of their pension.
Our reporter Daniela Dimitrova checked what they can afford for the holiday with this money. She was at the market with two elderly ladies from Ruse, BNT reports.
The Easter supplement of BGN 70 will reach over 2 million pensioners. The most impatient have already withdrawn them from ATMs to shop for Easter before prices have risen. In general, Ruse retirees shop in large grocery stores because they can find products on promotion. Many of them still do not have lamb, but the elderly do not look for it. They look at the price first, then they think about the quality of the food.
Stefka and Malina live door to door. They have worked all their lives. One in a kindergarten, the other in a bakery. However, their pensions without kovid and the holiday supplement do not have BGN 400. That’s why they are eager to take the money for Easter, even though they know that inflation has “eaten” them before they even withdraw it from the ATM.
Although most of the products in the bag are on sale, Malina Yordanova does not stop wondering about their prices.
“This juice, because my granddaughter will come for Easter – 2 liters is BGN 6.59. The Easter cake is BGN 4.79. This is a living mockery, to count my pennies. I wanted to buy my granddaughter an Easter bunny. Well, it’s 7 “How can I give? It’s good that I have children who help me, at least in the winter they pay for my electricity,” she said.
Due to inflation, the Ministry of Social Affairs is considering increasing pensions by 6% from July 1.
“Our goal is to prevent the incomes of the elderly from declining after the abolition of payments for covid,” said Georgi Gokov, minister of labor and social policy.
And the budget provides BGN 350 million more to support the people.
