NEW YORK — A possible road rage dispute involving a retired New York City Police captain ended in a shooting in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon, multiple law enforcement sources told NBC New York.
An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that police responded to Coney Island Avenue around 2:15 pm for reports of a man shot in the leg. Emergency crews transported the injured man to New York University Langone Hospital – Brooklyn; he is expected to survive.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, two men got into something of a heated dispute before one of them, the retired NYPD captain, shot the other man in the leg.
The retired captain was being questioned, sources said. A police spokesman added that no arrests had been made and the investigation was ongoing.
The captain just returned in October after 18 years due to a disability pension, according to a senior police official.
