Lucas Pinheiro Braathens quickly and hilariously left 23 years old.
Now the Norwegian slalom skier has completed a new role.
– I feel so privileged, he says.
At the end of October, Lucas Braathen shocked the entire skiing world when he announced that he was retiring as a result of a dispute with the Norwegian Skiing Association.
The reason is that he felt “treated extremely disrespectfully”.
– In order for me to continue competing with the system we have today, I don’t just have to put my dreams on the shelf. I also have to put my joy on the shelf. I am not willing to do that. I am done, he said then.

“I feel privileged”
During Friday, the 23-year-old announced what he will do next.
Braathen will keep its major sponsors and get several ambassadorial roles. He will test skis for the Atomic ski brand, work with design and launch his own online store.
– I feel so privileged that with these opportunities I still get to ski a little this winter. It’s fun between periods of work that gives me a chance to express my ideas, he says in a press release.
The 23-year-old Norwegian, who made his World Cup debut in 2019, ends his career with a total of five World Cup victories (three in slalom and two in giant slalom) on his CV. He also won the overall slalom cup last season.
