“Unfortunately, in recent months there have been very large discrepancies between GERB’s views on what should be done and what I understand as critically important actions in the field of defense,” Tagarev said.

According to him, there is no way that Dimitar Glavchev should not be associated with GERB.

He pointed out that it is important who will be the Minister of Defense. We operate on a very broad front and have many problems to solve. It is best to have someone who is well versed in issues come in and continue with their team to find solutions. This official office can be for 2 months, but experience shows that it can be for a longer time, Tagarev warned.

The Minister of Defense also commented on the circulation of his name as a bargaining chip during the negotiations between GERB and PP-DB.

“I believe the words of Acad. Denkov, who stated that during the negotiations my name was not mentioned. However, my name was mentioned in the media and public appearances of Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski,” he also said.

According to him, there are two possible explanations – the first is to get another sector in the administration.

“The second option is that they made great efforts to position themselves as convinced Euro-Atlanticists. And the fact that there are other people who think this way and are responsible for it, and also have international contacts, is also part of the explanation, Tagarev explained. And specified that a minister of defense, especially a few hundred kilometers from a raging war, has very serious functions in the alliance discussions and decision-making in NATO and the EU.
