Scientists have identified features of the retina in people suffering from Parkinson’s disease. This is reported in NPJ Parkinson’s Disease.
Researchers found a higher prevalence of retinal thinning among patients with Parkinson’s disease than among healthy controls.
According to the study authors, this may be associated with more severe motor symptoms of the disease and impaired thinking.
The discovery could become the basis for a new method for diagnosing the disease and assessing the risk of cognitive impairment in patients with Parkinson’s disease. However, this still requires further research.
It was previously reported that scientists are closer to a drug that improves the condition of pulmonary hypertension.
