The Argentine forward scored three times against his former team in Atalanta’s 5-1 victory and reached seven goals in the competition.
Mateo Retegui scored a hat-trick in Atalanta’s 5-1 win over Genoa. Against his former team, the Argentine forward scored three times in his entire career for the first time and became the top scorer in Serie A with seven goals, along with Frenchman Marcus Thuram.
The one who emerged from Boca’s youth team opened the scoring 24 minutes into the first stage, after a good collective play by the team on the left side that culminated in him throwing himself to the ground. Already in the second stage, he took advantage of a short rebound left by goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, to push it into the net with his left foot. Finally, with 15 minutes remaining, he sealed his hat-trick with a penalty. Just a few minutes later, he left applauded by everyone present at Gewiss Stadium.
In addition to being the top scorer of the tournament, Retegui reached the number of goals he had scored last season in Serie A, precisely with Genoa. In the scoring table he is tied with Thuram, Inter forward, who also scored three against Torino this Saturday.
With this win, which was completed by the Brazilian Éderson and the Dutch Martin de Roon, the team led by Gianpiero Gasperini reached 10 points and was placed in seventh place in the standings, a position that provides a ticket to the Conference League.
