Retail – Freiburg im Breisgau – Inner cities rely on 2G ribbons: “Positive feedback” – Economy

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – In more and more inner cities in the southwest, customers can avoid long checks at shops with ribbons and stamps as 2G proof. Municipalities and retailers in Freiburg, Villingen-Schwenningen, Baden-Baden, Heilbronn and Ulm, among others, are relying on appropriate concepts. Anyone who presents proof of vaccination or convalescence and ID card at the issuing offices there will either receive a ribbon on their wrist or a stamp on their hand. These then serve as 2G proof in the shops so that the documents do not have to be individually checked again at the entrances.

“The ribbon solution is possible if the cities and municipalities take it in hand and implement it on site,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Stuttgart on Thursday. “Because there are above all practical questions: There must be uniform ribbons and there must be someone who is responsible for and implements it accordingly and thus excludes the risk of abuse.” Ribbons and stamps should “not lead to a weakening of the 2G controls,” emphasized the spokesman. If the municipalities are responsible for this, that can be guaranteed.

The state government in Baden-Württemberg is thus taking a much more liberal course than the Bavarian state government. There Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had rejected ribbons and stamps for the retail trade: “With the ribbon, we made a very clear decision: This is not an alternative,” said Söder. “Nobody can see who is issuing the ribbon, who authorized it?”

As in the past, this leads to different corona regulations in the Ulm area. While 2G stamps are being distributed in downtown Ulm, such a concept has not yet been possible on the Bavarian side of the Danube in Neu-Ulm.

The Baden-Württemberg Trade Association emphasized that they were “very grateful to the state government for making the ribbon solution possible”. You get “consistently positive feedback from dealers and also from customers, who generally accept the model very well,” said a spokesman for the regional association. “The effort and costs for retailers are reduced, and the customer’s mood for shopping increases as they no longer have to show proof and ID at every entrance.”
