Retail, culture and gastronomy in the new Louis Vuitton store in New York

Louis Vuitton is taking another step in the expansion that is already confirmed with a new opening on Fifth Avenue in New York, specifically, on 57th Street in the city. It’s not a normal store, as it is five grand floors that make up a stately Art Deco-inspired building, characterized by a brick facade with large arched windows.

The exterior structure has been kept intact, while the interior stands outr impressive atrium with statues developed by Shohei Shigematsupartner of the architecture firm OMA, who previously collaborated with Louis Vuitton on an immersive exhibition in Bangkok. Each tower is characterized by using different Louis Vuitton materials: historic stripes, classic Monogram canvas, white Damier and metallic Monogram.

At Louis Vuitton 57th Street NYC we find exclusive items from the brand.

Behind the atrium is another amazing visual installation consisting of a series of mirrored bags stacked like bricks that build a wall just 18 meters hightransforming a basic architectural element into a dynamic sculpture. The layers alternate between the smaller Keepall and Speedy models, creating an undulating, rhythmic effect as the wall rises to the fifth floor.

Exposed concrete and wood floors alternate with fluffy carpets, while spaces are softly lit and arranged for open flow. Furniture from the former location reappears throughout the store and new pieces reflect the way designers such as Carlo Mollino, Charlotte Perriand, Christophe Delcourt and Pierre Augustin Rose have a careful curation of vintage and contemporary furniture, together with works by American and New York artists such as Todd Eberle, Chris Martin and Caio Fonseca, present throughout the store.
