Collapse drama two minutes before the break in the European Championship game between Denmark and Finland. Christian Eriksen, the 29-year-old Danish midfielder, suddenly collapses for no apparent reason. Thanks to the quick reaction of fellow players, the referee and medical staff, Eriksen received emergency care immediately. Uefa and the Danish Football Association soon both confirmed on Twitter that Erikson was in the hospital and his situation was stable.

The heroes who gave Eriksen first aid were celebrated on social media – especially captain and defender Simon Kjaer (32). Kjaer «made sure that Christian Eriksen did not swallow his tongue, gave him cardiopulmonary resuscitation and made sure that the team stood close to him to prevent any filming,» writes the «Sports Bible». Then the defender had toasted Eriksen’s desperate girlfriend, 23-year-old Sabrina Kvist Jensen. “To do this in the heat of the moment is incredible.”

Prince William thanks the English referee
The English referee Anthony Taylor (42) was also showered with respect for his actions within seconds. Even Prince William (38) wrapped him a wreath: All royals are in thoughts with Eriksen and his family. “Congratulations to the medical team and Anthony Taylor for their calm and quick action,” said William.

Eriksen received global support and well-wishes, including from former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and Juve superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (36). Drogba: “Fight for your life Eriksen, we pray for you.”

CR7 wishes its Serie A rival from Inter Milan a speedy recovery: “Our thoughts and prayers go to Christian Eriksen and his family,” said CR7 on Instagram. «The world of football stands together and hopes for good news. I expect to see you back on the field soon, Chris! Stay strong!”

Denmark’s royal family also takes an interest: “It was touching to see the fantastic team spirit and the support from the players and fans after we had all experienced a great shock,” wrote the Danish crown prince couple. “The most important thing tonight is that Christian Eriksen is fine, considering the circumstances.” (kes)
