The way “Robozee”, the urban dancer, moves to the music is actually very aesthetic: often it’s just the hands that smoothly intertwine for minutes, then the whole body. The break dancers call this dance style “popping”, but here it is more the feeling that Schütz’s music creates – a meditative dancing that recreates the mystical atmosphere of the events of the resurrection.
Schütz’ “Resurrection” as a total work of art
The film was shot in the summer of 2022 at the central plant in Dresden with the help of the film production company CentreFilms from Radebeul. The filmmakers come from the dance scene themselves, so they are familiar with music and movement and therefore know very well which effects and techniques are suitable for such a film.
“We worked with crane rides, with vertigo effects, with fog,” says director and film producer Felix Roßberg. “Some things we only tried out on site – such as filming the dance from above. The length of the film was also a challenge: 50 minutes, that’s different than shooting short videos or image films.”
The total work of art can now be admired in the cinema: On Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023, the film “Resurrection” will be shown in Dresden for the first time – 400 years after the premiere of the work by Heinrich Schütz.
