Several provinces like Quebec and Ontario are witnessing an upsurge in the number of COVID-19 cases, as Health Canada confirmed on Friday morning that it was giving the green light for the use of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine in children 5 to 11 years old.

COVID-19 cases continue to increase in Quebec, with 745 new infections in the past 24 hours. The province also reported two more deaths in its latest toll on Friday.
Hospitalizations decreased (201, -4) while 45 people were in intensive care (-1). Since the start of the pandemic, 437,549 Quebecers have been infected and 11,552 people have lost their fight against the disease.
The number of cases also remains on the rise in Ontario, where health officials reported 793 new cases of COVID-19 in the past day, compared to 711 cases the day before. The province also reported four more deaths.
To date, Ontario has 610,222 cases and 9,959 deaths to its credit. However, hospitalizations declined (269, -9), while the number of people in intensive care remained relatively stable (128, -1).
Health Canada confirmed on Friday morning that it was giving the green light for the use of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine in children aged 5 to 11. “Great news for the children and families of the [Canada]”, Declared the Minister of Health, Jean-Yves Duclos on Twitter.
In western Canada, Manitoba has recorded 201 new cases and four deaths, a record number not seen since last June. Saskatchewan added 89 new infections and one additional death.
Alberta reported 412 cases and two deaths, while British Columbia recorded 497 cases and three deaths on Friday.
In the Atlantic provinces, New Brunswick saw its death toll increase by 90 contaminations and Nova Scotia by 27 cases and one death.
Prince Edward Island reported three new cases and four infections were reported in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Yukon (32 cases) and the Northwest Territories (four cases) have also updated their reports.
