The recovery continues at La Poste, assures its CEO
The recovery of La Poste’s services will continue in the coming weeks “as the health and economic situation improves”, said Philippe Wahl, its president and chief executive officer (CEO), on Thursday.
“Since Tuesday, we have been delivering mail and packages four days a week”, noted Mr. Wahl on France Inter. “It will be the same thing over the next two weeks, with a holiday. So more parcels, more mail for the French”, he added.
Going from three to four days of postman’s passage required 454 meetings of the health, safety and working conditions committee (CHSCT) and the agreement of occupational medicine, he said Wednesday to Parisian. The boss of La Poste, however, remains cautious about a return to normal for his services, with a view to deconfinement:
“We are at work on the deconfinement, but the objective since the beginning of the crisis, it is the continuity of the public service, it is a solid organization which allows, as the situation improves sanitary and economic, to increase the number of letter carriers and the number of post offices and all contact points. “
Faced with the drop in its workforce due to childcare and illness, La Poste had greatly reduced the wing to focus on “essential missions” by providing fewer services, making fewer rounds, and reducing its network to 1,600 offices. Since then, it has worked to gradually redeploy its network.
It reopened 9,800 points of contact (municipal agencies and relay points with traders included) Tuesday, out of a total of 17,000 and an announced target of 10,000 at the end of the month, noted Wahl. “We will continue this deployment, especially in rural areas”, he said, adding:
“There are the barrier measures, the distance, all the protective equipment, and therefore inevitably there [aura] queues. “
