The fighting between the Malian army and the Coordination of Azawad Movements for control of the north of the country is causing concern in Bamako.
The CMA has decided to withdraw from the implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement signed in 2015. When questioned, several advocate an amicable resolution of the conflict when others are ready to respond to war.
“If you want peace, prepare for war. If they declare war on Mali, there is no problem. We are ready to face them, that’s normal. We will never be able to liberate the North without war, and after the war we will negotiate, because we will all know each other’s weight. There will surely be casualties on both sides, but this is really part of the reconquest of territory. In this case, war is necessary,” explains a resident.
In addition to the CMA, the FAMA must fight against the GSIM and groups affiliated with the Islamic State. In this war, Bamako favors the military option.
In recent days, the Coordination of Azawad Movements has attacked the positions of the Malian Armed Forces in Bamba, Gao and the Timbuktu boat in Rharous. In its response, the army said it had lost 10 of its soldiers and neutralized 46 terrorists.
