Results of the Song Festival Choir Competition: Winners, Prizes, and Participating Collectives

On Saturday, throughout the day, the finals of the Song Festival Choir Competition were held in the Great Hall of the University of Latvia and the Riga Latvian Society House, where 33 mixed choirs, 11 women’s choirs, seven men’s choirs and four senior choirs competed for the Grand Prize. The competition was evaluated by an international jury, the National Cultural Center of Latvia states.

The grand prize and a cash prize of 3,000 euros in the group of mixed choirs went to the youth choir “Kamēr…”. The winners in the women’s choir group were Ventspils Culture Center’s women’s choir “Venda”, in the men’s choir group – the Rēzekne Culture and Tourism Center’s choir “Graidi”, and in the senior choir group – the Riga Latvian Society’s senior choir “ERELBE”.

The collectives of Pierīga districts did not remain without recognition either. The very high second place in the group of mixed choirs was won by the mixed choir “Pa Saulei” (artistic director Marta Ozola) of the Culture Center “Berģi” of Garkalne Parish, Ropaži region, and the mixed choir “Maska” of the Babīte Cultural Education Center (director Jānis Ozols) won the third place. On the other hand, the first place in the group of four senior choirs was taken by the Mārupe House of Culture senior choir “Noktirne” (conducted by Ilga Bērziņa).

Five other collectives represented Pierīga in the Choir Wars and received diplomas for their participation – also the Mārupe House of Culture’s senior choir “Noktirne” (conductor Ilga Bērziņa), Carnikava’s mixed choir “Vēja balss” (conductor Matīss Circenis), the mixed choir of Saulkrasti region choir “Sēja” (conductor Ārijs Ādamsons), the mixed choir “Atvars” of the Culture Center “Siguldas Devons” of the Sigulda region (conductor Jānis Baltiņš) and the mixed choir “Anima” of the Saulkrasti region (conductor Laura Leontjeva) , “Ķekava” men’s choir of the Ķekava House of Culture (director: Arvīds Plapters).

In total, a record number of collectives participated in the Choir Wars – 55 (33 mixed, 11 female, seven male and four senior choirs),
