Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most insulted footballers in the English Premier League on Twitter. This is the result of an analysis by the British media regulator Ofcom and the Alan Turing Institute. According to this, a total of 68 percent of Premier League professionals have already been victims of insulting messages on the online platform. Ronaldo, who plays for Manchester United, received 12,520 abusive messages, according to the study.
The Portuguese was followed by his teammates Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford. The most affected club was Tottenham Hotspur. To determine the numbers, 2.3 million tweets from the first five months of the 2021/22 season were analyzed. According to this, a total of 57 percent of the tweets were positive, but almost 60,000 (3.5 percent) were offensive.
