New Japan Pro-Wrestling was in the United States this Friday, November 8 for NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed 2024. The show was held at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in the town of Lowell, Massachusetts. Several All Elite Wrestling wrestlers were notably on the event card, as Gabe Kidd put the STRONG Openweight Championship on the line against Kosei Fujita in the main event.

Pre-show

Matt Vandagriff beat Seabass Finn by falling with his Bloody Sunday (a mix between a Death Rider and a Brainbuster). Matt Vandagriff remains undefeated in NJPW, with seven victories in as many fights.

Main map

The show opened with a singles match between IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion David Finlay and Kevin Knight. The title of BULLET CLUB leader was not at stake.

David Finlay beat Kevin Knight by falling with his Overkill.

The first championship match of the evening saw TMDK’s Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste defend the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Titles against The Grizzled Young Veterans, James Drake and Zack Gibson.

Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson) defeated TMDK (Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste) by pinfall with Grit Your Teeth over Shane Haste to win the titles for the first time in their career – NEW CHAMPIONS.

In the next fight, Mustafa Ali and Lio Rush faced each other in a rematch from NJPW STRONG Resurgence 2024, which took place on May 11 in Ontario, California. Mustafa Ali won the fight in just a few minutes.

Lio Rush beat Mustafa Ali by pinfall with a sequence of two Frog Splashes.

West Coast Wrecking Crew (Jorel Nelson et Royce Isaacs) ont battu Dirty Work (Fred Rosser et Tom Lawlor) 2-1 by KO in a 2 out of 3 Stages of Hell Match (decision 1: Tables Match / decision 2: Submission Match / decision 3: Last Man Standing Strap Match). Jorel Nelson and Royce Isaacs called the Grizzled Young Veterans after the match to challenge them for NJPW Strong Style Evolved which will take place next Sunday, December 15th. The GYVs seemed to accept the challenge.

Hazuki a battu Anna Jay, Koguma et Trish Adora by pinning with the Magistral on Trish Adora to become the new No. 1 challenger to the NJPW Women’s STRONG Championship. The reigning champion, Mercedes Moné, came to confront and attack Hazuki after the match. The two wrestlers will face off for the belt at Strong Style Evolved.

Los Ingobernables de Japon (Shingo Takagi and Yota Tsuji) defeated The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) by pinning with Tsuji’s Gene Blaster on Bennett. After the match, AEW TNT Champion and member of The Elite, Jack Perry, attacked Yota Tsuji. The Scapegoat challenged Yota Tsuji to a match on January 5, 2025, at Wrestle Dynasty. Shingo Takagi then came to Tsuji’s rescue, sending Jack Perry fleeing the ring.

Ryohei Oiwa a battu KENTA by falling with a small package.

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Saber Jr. was in action in the next match. He teamed up with Bad Dude Tito to take on the duo of Shota Umino and Tomohiro Ishii.

Shota Umino and Tomohiro Ishii ont from TMDK (Bad Dude Tito and Zack Saber Jr.) by falling with Umino’s Death Rider on Tito. Shota Umino will challenge Zack Saber Jr. for the latter’s title on January 4, at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 19. After the match, Jon Moxley appeared on screen to address Shota Umino and tell him that he was going to send an emissary to prevent him from arriving at Tokyo Dome early next year. Umino responded that he didn’t care, that he wanted to face Moxley at Tokyo Dome, and that he wasn’t afraid that Mox send anyone to try to stop him.

AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita defended his title against TJP in the following match, with the bout serving as a co-main event.

Konosuke Takeshita a battu TJP by pinfall with a Falcon Arrow from the top of the second rope to retain his title. After the match, the champion was confronted by Shingo Takagi. The latter challenged Konosuke Takeshita for a match at Wrestle Kingdom 19. Tomohiro Ishii also glared at him from the entrance ramp. It seems that Konosuke Takeshita is a coveted man.

In the main event of the evening, Gabe Kidd put the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship back on the line against TMDK member Kosei Fujita.

Gabe Kidd a battu Kosei Fujita by pinfall with his Madman Bomb to retain his title. A fight between TMDK and BULLET CLUB broke out after the match. Ryohei Oiwa, who came to save Kosei Fujita from the hands of Gabe Kidd and KENTA, ended up gaining the upper hand on Gabe Kidd and challenged the latter for his belt to close the show.
