Result of the question of trust: Rendi-Wagner is facing fateful week

Rendi-Wagner had SPÖ members vote in a survey about their whereabouts.

Pamela Rendi-Wagner is facing the crucial week of her political career. At the beginning of April we should have found out how high – or how low – the SPÖ members’ approval of the party leader is. But then came the Corona crisis: “It was important to me that we did not conduct an evaluation and discussion of a member survey at the level of an acute phase of Corona. That would have been more than inappropriate, no one in Austria would have understood that, ”Rendi-Wagner explains in the oe24.TV interview (see below) the postponement.

presentation

The most important point in the questionnaire, which went to all party members: “Should Pamela Rendi-Wagner remain party chairman?” First it is presented to the party executive and then to the public. Rendi himself is confident.

Rendi-Wagner in the oe24.TV interview: “I am confident that the result is good”

Wolfgang Fellner: You are facing the crucial week of your political career. What’s your mood like?

Pamela Rendi-Wagner: I am very optimistic and have every reason to be. I was traveling across the country in the last few weeks before the survey and got so much positive feedback. This gives me confidence that this will be a good result.

Fellner: Do you have a personal yardstick?

Rendi-Wagner: It’s not just about a value, it’s about the participation as well as the approval rate. These two numbers in combination then make up the result, and in principle it’s about trust. There is a yardstick for the historically highest participation rate in a SPÖ member survey, which was 22%. Of course it would be a success to top that.

Fellner: You criticized the government. What would be your recipe to alleviate unemployment again?

Rendi-Wagner: The first step must be to strengthen the welfare state. Second, smart and rapid investment in the economy is needed to create jobs. Third, a fair distribution of crisis costs is required. That could be a solidarity contribution of 10% of the annual turnover of the major profiteers of the crisis, such as Amazon.

Fellner: Specifically, you are asking for an increase in unemployment benefits to 70%. What else?

Rendi-Wagner: The crisis shows that we must conduct a debate on justice without taboos. Also about the fair distribution of work among as many people as possible.

Fellner: So a reduction in working hours. 30 hours?

Rendi-Wagner: It’s a long process, but that’s definitely the goal.
