Fashion chain C&A wants to thoroughly reform its organizational structure, with possible consequences for the company’s head office in Vilvoorde. A collective redundancy has been announced, says trade union ACV Puls. It is not clear how many jobs are at risk.

In a press release, the company said it aims to “build a more agile and smooth-running business that can quickly adapt to new market realities.” The board wants to “create a simpler, more straightforward business model” and on Wednesday presented plans to European workers’ representatives and staff.
The plans “could affect a number of functions in the European company,” it said. When asked, the company does not want to clarify whether and how many jobs are threatened.
Kirsten Rosiers of the ACV Puls union confirms that the unions have received an explanation of the plans. “A collective resignation and possible impact have been announced,” she says. She did not say how many jobs are at stake. “That’s too premature. In 2017 we also had a major restructuring at the head office and we were able to save a lot of jobs. I hope we can do that again.”
According to Rosiers, approximately 400 people work at C&A’s head office in Vilvoorde. There is a thorough reorganization on the way there, according to the union woman. The shops and distribution center in Boom would not be included in the restructuring.
