Restrictions on new coronavir in Europe tighten The news

Roma, Oct. 13, LETA – DPA. Many European countries are increasingly restricting the fight against the new coronavirus Covid-19.

The Italian government has tightened restrictions in the fight against the new coronavirus, including a ban on private events and a curfew for bars and restaurants, media reports.

Restaurants and bars will be open until midnight and from 21:00 people will no longer be allowed to gather at these places.

The news agency ANSA reports that the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte signed a decree on new restrictions last night, but the document has not yet been published.

The media reports that a maximum of 30 people will be allowed to attend weddings, baptisms and funerals, and it is recommended to even wear masks at home when visiting relatives or friends.

The government has also called on people to avoid meeting and sharing meals with more than six non-household members at home and has banned all school trips.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health on Monday reduced all quarantine and isolation periods from 14 days to ten. Experts have supported this step.

By the first of October, less than 2,000 new cases of Covid-19 had been registered in Italy per day, but since then the number of infections has risen to more than 5,700 on Saturday.

4,619 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Monday, but fewer tests are usually performed on weekends, so there are fewer tests on Mondays.

In Italy, 359,569 people have been infected with the new coronavir to date, of whom 36,205 have died.

In Slovakia, it is forbidden to gather more than six people from Tuesday, unless they are all members of the same household.

The government made the decision on Sunday, along with a number of other restrictions, including that restaurants will be allowed to sell takeaway food from Thursday and sports clubs, saunas and swimming pools will be completely closed.

The new restrictions in the fight against Covid-19 have led to a conflict between populist and conservative Prime Minister Igor Matovich and Economy Minister Richard Sulik, who represents the neoliberal Freedom and Solidarity Party (SaS).

Sulik has openly criticized the government’s actions, believing that it is accepting restrictions that will harm the Slovak economy without basing its decisions on facts.

Data from the Slovak Ministry of Health show that the majority of infections occur at weddings and family celebrations and that there are no reliable data on the risk of infection in restaurants and workplaces.

Matovich, meanwhile, criticized Sulika on Monday, saying his reaction was “irresponsible sabotage” of the necessary restrictions and that the SaS needed a better leader.

The Czech Republic has banned more than six people from gathering and closed bars, restaurants and clubs, as infection with the new coronavirus has reached one of the highest levels in the European Union (EU).

The new rules, announced by Health Minister Romans Primula on Monday evening, will take effect on Wednesday.

According to them, public consumption of alcoholic beverages will also be banned, but schools will be closed for studies until the beginning of November and will switch to distance learning.

Wearing masks will be mandatory not only indoors, but also at public transport stops. However, businesses will continue to operate, with the exception of bars, restaurants and clubs.

“We as a country have only one attempt to bring this pandemic under control, and it must be successful,” said Prime Minister Andrejs Babišs.

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, there are 493.1 cases of Covid-19 infection per 100,000 population in the country in the last 14 days, the highest level in the EU.
