Restrictions on Large Vehicles at Thamarassery Pass: Order Issued by District Collector

Kozhikode: District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh has issued an order restricting the use of large vehicles during the holidays in view of the severe traffic jam at the Thamarassery pass. Traffic is restricted between 3pm and 9pm on Saturdays, public holidays including Sundays and Fridays falling on second Saturdays.

These days large vehicles like tippers with more than 6 wheels, cargo vehicles with more than 10 wheels, multi-axle vehicles and trucks are not allowed to pass through the pass. The ban will be in effect from 6 am to 9 am on Monday. The district collector, who is also the chairman of the district-level disaster management authority, issued the order using various sections of the Disaster Management Act. The District Collector informed that these restrictions will continue till further order.

The Thamarassery Police has been directed to set up an emergency system for speedy provision of services of equipment operators, vehicle repair experts etc. to restore traffic in case of accidents and vehicle breakdowns at the pass.
