Restrictions on foreigners? It’s good, says Trpišovský. Will Slavia bring another stopper?

Slavia’s line-up will change significantly in the rematch against St Joseph’s on Thursday. “We take into account all possible circumstances. The program, the current state of health, we will want new players to feel the environment in Eden. Another thing is that the number of foreigners is not taken into account in the cups, and in the Czech league, which we start against Hradec Králové on Sunday, yes,” coach Trpišovský calculated.

The Foreign Legion grew in Eden during the summer. In the Czech league, there is a restriction that a maximum of five players who are not from European Union countries or those that have candidate status can enter the match.

Slavia have seven such players: Liberian Oscar, Nigerian Yiru Sora, Moses Usor and Peter Olayinka, Brazilian Eduardo Santos and Ewerton and Ivory Coast’s Ibrahim Traoré. “We take it as it is. In the first phase, we look at the availability of players and who is currently able to help us. Now this is how it came together. I think that it won’t be such a problem in the league again, that everyone will be available for the match,” explained Trpišovský.

His take on similar restrictions? “I’m going to speak against us a little, but I think it’s good. We are a smaller country, we have to think about giving our players a chance. The limitation should be so that it does not happen that ten or eleven foreigners play in one team. It is a question for the future, whether to introduce a rule so that more young Czech players start or if clubs are given preferential bonuses for deploying them. In any case, it’s a topic for a wider discussion,” said the Slavist coach.

The restrictions do not apply to other foreigners such as Swede Aiham Ousou, Christo Tiehi, who has French citizenship, Ukrainian Taras Kacharaba or Slovaks Jakub Hromada and Ivan Schranz. Others could theoretically be added, the Red and Whites still rope two stoppers from abroad. One of them is the Swede Isak Hien from Djurgaarden.

“Players are interested in this position and we would like to bring one. At the moment we do not have an agreement with any club, that is the current situation. It’s not 100% about to fall,” Trpišovský outlined the current situation.

He announced that he will not make a change in goal against the St Joseph’s team, just as Aleš Mandous will be catching a week ago. Striker Sor, who has minor health problems, will certainly not be available. “If there was a risk even on Sunday, he won’t even play against Hradec. We want to have him at Panathinaikos,” prefaced Slavist’s chief strategist.

The players, who will get a chance, will be able to show themselves and also need to atone for the defeat in the preparatory match against the second league Líšna, with which the seamers lost 2:4 behind closed doors. “The match showed us a lot. Sometimes it happens like that, some players got the opportunity, the game didn’t go well for us defensively. It was affected by the very first minute when we scored a goal. The opponent played very well, I have to praise him,” Trpišovský looked back at the unsuccessful warm-up match.

Slavia originally wanted to try out a full defense game in it. “Guys who hadn’t played for a while were able to try bad things and see how it’s not supposed to be. Thank God that we tried it out in a match like this, we have the opportunity to show it and already on Tuesday at training I saw a big change in some of the players who were affected. It fulfilled its purpose in a different direction than we originally thought, but we take it positively,” the coach pointed out.
