Restrictions bring Hamburg little relief from traffic jams

Hamburg (dpa / lno) – Anyone who works at home in the home office because of the corona pandemic saves themselves the trip to work and possibly the daily traffic jam. In Hamburg, however, according to the ADAC traffic club, there was not that great relief in road traffic. The length of the traffic jams in the Hanseatic city decreased in 2020 by 15 percent compared to the previous year to almost 26,000 kilometers. That is the smallest decrease among the five northern German federal states, the ADAC reported on Thursday in its traffic jam balance. In contrast, the decline in the northern neighbor Schleswig-Holstein was 62 percent.

According to the surveys, the front runner in traffic jams was the short section Othmarschen-Waltershof on the A 7 in Hamburg with a good 6,000 kilometers over the year. Sorted by autobahn, the A 7 was in front in Hamburg with a total of 16,000 kilometers of traffic jam. On the A1 it was 6245 kilometers, all other motorways in the city-state remained three-digit.
