Restricting Access to the Trevi Fountain: Addressing Disrespect towards Historical Monuments

ROME: Tourists jumping and swimming into the waters of the city’s famous Trevi Fountain have become a regular occurrence, authorities said, taking action. Authorities are planning to block access to the Trevi Fountain.

Rome’s tourism councilor Alessandro Onorato asked the government to take an appropriate decision in this regard. As temperatures and heatwaves continue to be extreme in Italy, tourists have been flocking to the fountains. Authorities are of the opinion that as things have gotten out of hand, access to the Trevi Fountain, which was established in the 18th century, has to be restricted.

Last night, footage of a tourist climbing the top of the Trevi Fountain complex and jumping into the water below was widely circulated on social media. Later, the police found him and took him to the river.
