The unemployment rate fell slightly in September, but so did the number of vacancies
For the first time since the beginning of the Corona crisis, the number of unemployed in the district of the Freiburg Employment Agency – the city of Freiburg and the districts of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen – has fallen again. A total of 16,703 (City of Freiburg: 7903) women and men were unemployed in mid-September, 374 (97) fewer than a month earlier. The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 points to 4.5 (City of Freiburg: 6.2) percent. However, the increase compared to the same month last year is still more than 20 percent. The autumn upswing had a particularly positive impact on the catering, logistics and retail professions. By contrast, it has not yet made it onto the job market in jobs in the metalworking industry. “I am confident for the coming months. However, the structural problems in parts of the automotive industry are increasingly noticeable on the job market,” said the agency’s head, Andreas Finke. The demand for labor fell in September: companies in the district reported 933 vacancies. That is 264 or 22.1 percent less than in the previous month and 130 or 12.2 percent less than a year ago.
