After a landslide Saturday severely limited train traffic through Westchester County over the weekend, Metro-North and Amtrak announced plans for a near-full restoration of service in time for Monday trips. the morning.
Near-normal service along the entire length of the Hudson Line resumed Monday after crews worked for 43 hours straight to clear 350 cubic yards of dirt and debris and 250 cubic yards of rock and cement walls from a landslide. in Scarborough which covered all four tracks of the line. The railroad had operated bus service over the weekend to allow passengers to continue traveling while train service was suspended between Tarrytown and Croton-Harmon.
The landslide occurred at around 9.45am in Scarborough after a day of heavy rain. Rock and cement fell on two of the four tracks that suspended service between Tarrytown and Croton-Harmon.
“I can’t say enough about the Metro-North workers who have been there all weekend. There has been a tremendous effort to recover service this morning. We have four runways in that area; two have been cleared and we are working on two, we have two more that need to be cleared,” said Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi. “One of the other issues is we’re still working with the property owner up above to make sure the grade is stable. And that’s part of the plan in terms of returning service to those two roads. At this point. I guess We will probably race two tracks for the rest of this week.”
Metro-North Railroad is expected to operate on a “near normal weekday schedule” this Monday morning, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced. Metro-North will adjust schedules and cancel four of the 158 trains operating on the Hudson Line to relieve congestion, the governor said.
The following Metro-North trains will not operate on Monday:
Departing Poughkeepsie at 6:42 am, bound for Grand Central at 8:18 am Departing Tarrytown at 7:08 am 5:30 p.m. and 6:11 p.m. Poughkeepsie express trains from Grand Central.
