Restaurateurs ask that parking terraces be kept until Christmas | Radio Mallorca | Hour 14 Balearic Islands

On September 30, bars and cafes will have to remove the terraces in the parking area. It is something that generates some controversy among restaurateurs because some are in favor while others ask that the terraces be maintained. until the end of the year. The owners of some bars assure that with the closure of these terraces they can lose up to 20% of monthly income. On the other side of the coin, the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Palma is in favor of the withdrawal of the terraces because, as they explain, generates discomfort due to noise, dirt or lack of parking.

Manolo is the owner of the Don Manolín bar and has four tables in the parking area. It says in the microphones of the SER that it is not affected by the withdrawal of the terrace for the recovery of the capacity, which is currently 100% outdoors and 50% indoors. He is grateful for the help of the municipal government and thinks of others when looking for parking.

Paula, from the Dalí bar, which has three tables on the road, has spoken along the same lines. He affirms that the occupation of the parking lot for the use of the bar is a favor that the City Council has done to the sector. So, understand that “If the restrictions begin to be reduced, his thing is to withdraw them.”

But not everyone think the same. Julia, manager of the San Cosme bar, is not in favor of removing the terraces from the parking area. In fact, he asks that they be kept, at a minimum, Until christmas. “The weather is still good and you can take advantage of a little more until Christmas. With the rise in light, we are very fair,” he adds.

At the Montero bar, Eulogio also wants to keep his terrace until the end of the year. He only has two tables, but points out that his withdrawal can mean 20% less profit. “They should leave the parking lots to put a couple of tables, even if you have to pay, and people can defend themselves a little more because things are very bad,” he says.

From the Tuti bar, Isi explains that the withdrawal of its three tables would imply an impact of 60 euros per day, which translates into 1,560 euros less per month. As he says, he would be in favor of the withdrawal of the terraces if the full capacity were recovered. For this reason, “if they return 100% on the terrace and indoors, nothing would happen, it would be as before.”

For its part, the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Palma is in favor of the withdrawal of the terraces in the parking area. Maribel Alcázar, its president, explains that many neighbors have received fines for parking badly because they cannot find parking. In addition, he regrets the noise and dirt that are generated on terraces. It also ensures that the City Council has stopped earning 2.4 million euros for these terraces by granting them “at zero cost”.
