To limit the spread of the new coronavirus, restaurants in Poland will be closed for two weeks and no more than five people will be allowed to gather, Polish Prime Minister Matthew Moravecki said on Friday.
In Poland, more than 13,600 new cases of Covid-19 were registered on Friday, the highest number in 24 hours since the pandemic began.
153 deaths were also registered on Friday, leaving 4,172 Covid-19 patients dead in Poland.
“We are very concerned about the rate of infection (..) and we need to slow it down,” Moraveckis said.
For the next two weeks, restaurants will only be allowed to sell takeaways and make deliveries. Pupils who have reached the age of ten and older children will be taught remotely, Moraveckis said.
He also called on people over the age of 70 to stay at home as much as possible.
The new restrictions will take effect on Saturday, last for two weeks and can be extended if necessary.
Moraveckis pointed out that the first results of the restrictions could be observed after ten to 14 days.
If these measures do not produce the expected results, Poland will have to consider even stricter restrictions on public life, cultural and economic activities, the prime minister said, adding that the closure of borders, the closure of the wider economy and restrictions on freedom of movement are not ruled out.
