Restaurants in Prague offer convenient lunches for children and seniors

From the project, Prague promises to alleviate the situation for parents, seniors and their carers and family members.

School canteens, which used to be widely used by children and the elderly, are closed as well as schools due to the state of emergency. Therefore, the Prague City Hall, in cooperation with Prague restaurants, has set up a website through which it is possible to order advantageous subsidized lunches (obedyprodeti.praha.eu). Almost 60 restaurants are involved in the project and more are expected.

“Prague wanted to help parents whose children were left at home due to the closure of schools and who often do not have the time and space to cook. Therefore, we decided to combine the offer of restaurants and the demand of parents and create a web form where restaurants can register and offer schoolchildren cheap lunches for 60 crowns, or larger portions for seniors for 90 crowns, “summarizes the project Tomáš Nakládal, who works in the team of Deputy Mayor Petr Deep.

The project aims to help not only parents and seniors, but also self-employed people who have been hit hard by government anti-coronavirus measures. “We see this as an opportunity for restaurants that have dramatically lost customers and are limited to dispensing windows, to bridge the period of coronavirus restrictions and gain a new group of customers in this period,” adds Petr Hlubuček.

Lunches for children are offered by restaurants for 60 crowns, larger portions for seniors for 90 crowns. The price is the same for all restaurants.

The restaurants themselves involved in the project welcome the initiative. “We highly praise this initiative because we already know that it has attracted both existing and new customers. Mothers, grandchildren or grandmothers come here for meals, and in addition to buying a children’s portion, they also buy the senior or the main or the offer for which the customer would not otherwise come here, ”mentions the owner of the Carl Carl restaurant .

“We fight, we do it primarily for our employees, because here we have a stable team that we want to keep. So we are not closing, we have an open window, we are fighting and we believe that we will survive until the spring of next year with our quality staff, ”adds Zicha with zeal.

The project has been running for two days and the interest in it is great among customers. “Because there is a goose today, I came for a goose,” explains senior Josef Jánský. He plans to go for lunch occasionally, once or twice a week.

The project is also used by people caring for their relatives. “It’s great for me, because my grandmother is already immobile, she can’t cook, so the better price is definitely great here. I don’t have to cook, I’ll just bring her food, ”Miss Catherine doesn’t hide her enthusiasm.

But not everyone helped the project. For example, Hostinec Na staré Vozovně was enthusiastic, joined the project, but gave up his fight in two days. The owner confided to Novinka off-camera that she hoped to prepare at least twenty lunches thanks to the initiative, but this did not happen. She sold two, so it doesn’t pay her to open the restaurant at all.

The project is not limited in time yet. “It will last as long as it will be beneficial for restaurateurs and parents, as long as they are interested in it. Prague does not enter into this in any way, we combine supply and demand, and if both parties agree among themselves, it is up to them, ”explains Nakládal.

Restaurants can register for the project on the website obedyprodeti.praha.eu. At the same place, lunches can also be ordered and all the necessary information can be obtained for both customers and restaurants.
