Restaurant La Maryse in Stationsstraat closes its doors. The managers announced this on their social media on Tuesday evening.
Sten van der Blij in the kitchen and Yati van der Sypt in the hall opened their restaurant in the autumn of 2015. The focus was immediately on products from Meetjesland’s own soil. Last year, La Maryse was rewarded with three radishes in the Green Guide, a eating guide from ‘We’re Smart’ that rewards kitchens that give fruit and vegetables a leading role. Earlier this year, Sten and Yati gave the interior of their restaurant a new look. On Tuesday the surprising news came that La Maryse was closing.
Friends for the future
“After a few sleepless nights and doubts, we have decided that La Maryse will come to an end,” Sten and Yati write on their social media. “We are proud of what we have achieved together with our regular customers in recent years. Much more than we could hope for. For us, La Maryse was much more than just some chairs, tables and a kitchen. It was a story, an ideal, that we wrote together with many local partners. But it was much more than collaborations and professional transactions. We are left with friends from this. Now we feel that it is time to end this, that another challenge is calling us.”
No goodbye
Sten and Yati say goodbye, but are also looking ahead. “It is time to take a different path and stop at a time when we can look back on a beautiful story. Thank you to everyone who believed in our story, it was for you that we stood there with a big smile. Goodbye, not goodbye.” The restaurant will close with immediate effect. “La Maryse will not open its doors again,” it said. “Anyone who still had an open reservation will be informed by email.”
