Restaurant in Utrecht closed after refusing to check CoronaCheck app

A spokesperson for the municipality said. The mayor’s decision to close the case is in line with what has been agreed by the mayors in the Security Council, the spokesperson also says.

One of those agreements is that if you deliberately do not want to check the corona pass, you can immediately close a case or impose a penalty.

‘Direct vaccinatiedwang’

The owners of the restaurant, Waku Waku, say in the AD that they have ‘a deep conviction’ that the corona pass is equal to discrimination and medical apartheid‘. They see the corona admission ticket as ‘direct vaccination compulsion’.

“We are ready for this fight,” they tell the newspaper, “because we know we are right.” The vegan restaurant is said to have received a remarkable number of visitors since it announced that it did not want to “discriminate at the door” on principle.

Pleasant ambience

The introduction of the corona ticket, which had to be shown for the first time on Saturday, did not lead to any major problems. The municipality of Utrecht had also previously announced that the atmosphere in the city was otherwise good on Saturday.

Several catering entrepreneurs did say that difficult discussions sometimes had to be held at the door. In some cases, employees of catering establishments have been threatened.
