Restart of flights between Argentina and Cuba: with only six passengers?

This May 3, the first flight between Buenos Aires-Cayo Coco and Havana took place, after the restart of these connections by the Cubana de Aviación airline, renting a large plane from the Spanish company Plus Ultra.

The state media celebrated this opening, which could mean the arrival of more Argentine tourism, but apparently the start was very timid, at least for one of the parties. We expand below.

After a year of suspension, this week Cubana’s direct flights from Buenos Aires returned, using a Plus Ultra Airbus A340-300 aircraft, which have 295 three-class seats. The airline will fly every Wednesday until the end of October, until which date they have the permit.

According to the flight schedule disclosed by Aviacionline, the plane would be arriving at Cayo Coco around 6:40 in the afternoon, and then it would arrive in Havana after 9 at night. I would always leave Argentina around 11 in the morning, local time.

But after this return, there could be an initial failure, according to reports on social networks. The user Sebastián Polito, who follows statistics and information from the aeronautics of Argentina and the world, a member of the specialized website Aviacionline, revealed on May 3 that the flight from Cuba to Argentina was practically empty.

FLIGHTS FROM ARGENTINA TO CUBA?

“Cubana flight CU 360 (05/03) appears to have arrived in Buenos Aires from Havana with six passengers on board. Let’s take that number with a grain of salt, ”he wrote on his Facebook profile. Twitter. In other words, during a flight of more than nine hours, only six people flew to Argentina.

Apparently there is interest in vacationing in Cuba from Argentina, but we will have to give a little more time. According to the general manager of Cubana de Aviación in Argentina, Venus Rodríguez, the objective “is to transmit confidence to our tour operators, travel agencies and hotel groups.”

“It is a safe and stable operation with an A340 aircraft with a capacity for 275 passengers, 240 of them in economy class. We also have a backup plane. We are very happy. For now the flights will be every Wednesday, but we hope to increase the frequency next year and, if possible, reach other points in Argentina such as Córdoba and Rosario”, he added.
