Netanyahu said: “We will listen to the views of the United States, but we will make our final decisions based on our national interest.”

US President Joe Biden warned Netanyahu not to target Iran’s nuclear or oil sites to avoid further escalation in the region amid concerns about global energy prices.

The statement was issued after the Washington Post reported on Monday, citing unnamed US officials, that Netanyahu told Biden that Israel’s response would target military sites in Iran.

On October 1, Iran launched about 200 ballistic missiles at the Jewish state in an attack that Tehran said was launched in retaliation for the killing of the head of the Palestinian movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran in an attack attributed to Israel, and the assassination of Lebanon’s Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, along with a general in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in an Israeli attack on the south bank of Beirut.

After this Iranian missile bombing, the second of its kind in less than 6 months on the Hebrew state, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant promised to launch a “deadly, precise and sudden” attack against Iran.

According to the American newspaper, Netanyahu spoke on the phone with Biden on Wednesday, in their first contact in more than 7 weeks, citing two unnamed sources familiar with the matter, one of which is American.

The newspaper reported that Netanyahu told Biden that he intended to strike Iran’s military infrastructure.

Both sources said that during his call with Biden, Netanyahu adopted a “more moderate position” than before, which contributed to the US President’s decision to send the THAAD anti-missile defense system to Israel.
