China has recently experienced epidemics of various respiratory viruses, among which Mycoplasma is more common in children, while influenza and COVID-19 are the main infections in adults. The Ministry of Health and Welfare will report on the “Current Situation of Respiratory Disease Epidemics in China and Countermeasures” at the Executive Yuan today. Luo Yijun, deputy director of the Department of Disease Control and Prevention, said at the press conference after the meeting that four international airports in Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung and Kaohsiung have been , providing voluntary testing for symptomatic inbound travelers from China, Hong Kong and Macao.
According to data from Chinese health units, the Ministry of Health and Welfare pointed out that at least 7 respiratory viruses are currently circulating in China at the same time, and the epidemic period is earlier, but no new or mutated pathogens have been found. The World Health Organization (WHO) also assesses that the epidemic situation in China will continue to rise and recommends strengthening monitoring of the epidemic situation.
Luo Yijun said that passengers currently being tested at the airport will be sent to Kunyang Laboratory for testing of a variety of respiratory pathogens, including influenza, new coronavirus, rhinovirus, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, adenovirus, etc. Mycoplasma has not been detected so far, and only a few other viruses have been detected.
Luo Yijun said that the number of hospital visits for influenza-like diseases in China continues to decline, but temperatures change greatly, and precautions are still needed. Influenza viruses are the most common respiratory pathogens detected in the community, followed by adenovirus and parainfluenza viruses. As for the new coronavirus pneumonia, the overall epidemic situation is stable. As for Mycoplasma, the number of emergency department visits fluctuates, but the proportion of respiratory pathogens is very low, less than 1%.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has prepared relevant medical capacity. The import and production of Mycoplasma pneumonia drugs have been increased, and the inventory is sufficient. Luo Yijun also suggested that the elderly and young children with weak immunity should avoid traveling to China; if they must go, they should get influenza and COVID-19 vaccines in advance; they should pay attention to their health after returning to Taiwan. If they have a fever or respiratory discomfort, they should wear a mask and seek medical treatment. Inform travel history.
