Respira Peru, the solidarity initiative formed by the Peruvian Episcopal Conference, the National Society of Industries and the San Ignacio de Loyola University, announced the launch of a second telemarathon with the aim of raising money to continue bringing aid to Peruvians affected by COVID -19.
The organizers reported that the telemarathon seeks to raise financial support from companies and people of good will to continue with the solidarity campaign started in July of last year and continue providing oxygen plants and medical supplies to the country’s hospitals to address COVID-19 cases.
The activity will take place on Saturday, February 20, from 5:00 p.m., in the program “Because today is Saturday with Andrés”, which is broadcast on Panamericana Televisión. As in the first stage of the campaign, the money raised by Respira Peru will be administered by the Peruvian Episcopal Conference.
Respira Peru has delivered 13 medicinal oxygen plants for the hospitals of Arequipa, Huánuco (2), Lima (2), Tacna, Picota (San Martín), Tingo María, Trujillo, Abancay, Ica (2), and Piura.
It has also donated 2,880 mechanical respirators for personal use, 2,500 acrylic protectors for medical personnel, oxygen concentrators, wayrachis (high flow oxygen devices), medical backpacks, among other materials and medical supplies to the hospitals of the Minsa, EsSalud, Regional Governments, Armed Forces and National Police.
This year, at the initiative of Respira Peru, the national company Modasa manufactured the first six medicinal oxygen production plants fully assembled in Peru, which were presented on January 21 by the President of the Republic, Francisco Sagasti and the former Minister of Health, Pilar Mazzetti.
Three of these plants were delivered to the national health system: two to the Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital in Lima and one to the José Cayetano Heredia de EsSalud hospital in Piura.
