Respecting Citizens’ Rights in Dealing with Acts of Domestic Violence | Policy

Hanoi (VNA) – Continuing their working session this Friday, May 27 in Hanoi within the framework of the 3rd session of the 15th National Assembly, the deputies listened to the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung present a document concerning the Domestic Violence Prevention and Combating Bill (amended) and the President of the Social Commission of the National Assembly, Nguyen Thuy Anh presented a report on the verification of this bill.

The committee insisted on the need to revise the law and asked the drafting body to continue the means of approaching and guaranteeing human rights, in particular those of women, children, the elderly and of the disabled. Citizens’ rights must be respected in dealing with acts of domestic violence, while paying attention to cultural and family factors; complete the regulations to concretize the tasks, powers and responsibility of the Communal Police in this matter.

The commission proposed to the editorial agency to research and propose solutions to prevent and fight against domestic violence adapted to localities where many ethnic minorities live; to study the integration of the gender issue in specific articles and clauses of the bill.

With regard to the addition of educational measures aimed at combating acts of domestic violence and assistance measures to control domestic violence, according to the commission, these measures have been drawn up and supplemented on the basis of a research of international experiences and can be considered as sustainable measures for the fight against domestic violence. – VNA
