According to an article published today by GameSpot, EA will make a major change in the management of the Battlefield series and will lead Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn Entertainment, who is behind Titanfall or the popular Apex Legends.
In addition to Zampell’s oversight of the series, EA plans to build an interconnected Battlefield universe. That’s why the company is setting up a new team in Seattle to focus on “creating a better story at Battlefield University,” led by Halo veteran Marcus Lehto. Studio Ripple Effect, which created the Portal mode for Battlefield 2042, then works on “a new Battlefield experience in the world of Battlefield 2042”.
Our vision for Battlefield starts with our commitment to 2042 and grows beyond that into a new future. Hear more about our road ahead with Vince Zampella and others in a new interview.https://t.co/ZdKqQOMVuz

Zampell’s new role could indicate that EA wants to bring some of the Battlefield series to make the free-to-play battle royal shooter Apex Legends so successful. Although Zampella did not confirm to GameSpot that Battlefield would be free-to-play, he said EA was “researching all possibilities.” And because both Apex Legends and Battlefield are getting ready for smartphones, EA may decide to go in that direction.
