Did your Facebook app notifications stop working? If so, it is extremely frustrating because you will not know what is going on with your friends on this platform. There are many reasons why the Facebook app for iPhone and Android is not delivering notifications. You can change a few options on your phone and in the app to fix the problem.
The most common reason why you’re not getting Facebook alerts is that your internet connection isn’t working. Other causes include active DND or airplane mode, bad cache, outdated app, minor phone issues, etc.
1. Check your internet connection
The first reason why you are not receiving Facebook alerts is a poor internet connection. You may be out of internet range or the router is damaged.
Open Settings on your smartphone and go to Wi-Fi. Choose a network you usually connect to. Once connected, a blue check mark appears next to the name. If the internet is not working, you can see No network available. The steps to check your internet connection on Android and iOS devices are the same.
You can check the Wi-Fi speed using a free website to confirm its working. Try restarting your router to resolve internet issues. If that doesn’t work, contact your internet service provider for a solution.
You can also switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data and establish an internet connection. Make sure you have an active data plan. Once your internet connection is stable, you will be able to receive notifications from Facebook.
2. Disable Do Not Disturb and Airplane Mode
Your phone’s notification settings may explain why you’re not getting alerts. Do not disturb mode or Airplane mode may be on.
Disable both modes on your iOS or Android phone. For iPhone X and above, swipe down from the right end of the screen. For iPhone 8 Plus and below, you need to swipe up from the bottom.
Android users can swipe down on their screen and disable Vol, Focuset Do not disturb modes.
3. Check notification permissions for Facebook
Another reason why you are not receiving alerts is that you may not have granted the necessary permissions after logging into Facebook the first time. To allow Facebook to send notifications to your iOS device:
- Go to Settings and navigate to Facebook.
- Check Notifications to confirm whether they are disabled or not.
- Toggle the Allow notifications to reactivate them.
You can also enable temporary notifications on your iPhone for urgent content.
For an Android device:
- Go to Settings and select Applications.
- Research Facebook and press Notifications.
- Toggle the Show Notifications to enable notifications from Facebook.
4. Check Facebook notification settings
Your Facebook account also has a Notifications section which could be causing alerts not loading. You can change the settings and fix the problem.
On your iOS device:
- Open your Facebook and select Menu at the bottom right of the screen.
- Scroll down and open Settings.
- Search next Notification settings. This section contains all of your permissions and explains how to receive alerts from the app.
- Yes Mute push notifications is on, press and turn it off. You will receive a message that notifications are no longer muted.
For an Android device:
- Go on facebook Settings in the menu (three horizontal bars) and search Notification settings.
- Then scroll down to the section Where you receive notifications section and type Push.
- Make sure the Mute push notifications option is disabled while the others are enabled.
The Facebook app will load any pending alerts as soon as you refresh it.
5. Restart your iPhone or Android phone
Restarting your phone greatly improves the performance of your device as the memory is cleared.
Once your phone has restarted, wait for all apps to load properly before scrolling or dragging the mouse. Connect to a network you normally use. Once logged in, open the Facebook app and refresh the notifications.
All notifications from Facebook should appear on your phone.
6. Clear Facebook App Cache
Facebook’s cache stores all file types you have accessed while browsing in the past. This helps reduce application load times.
Sometimes apps get blocked due to cache issues. Clearing the stored files usually resolves this issue.
To clear Facebook cache on your iOS device:
- Open Settings and go in General.
- Tap iPhone storage to check the current memory consumption.
- Scroll down until you see Facebook and open it.
- Select Download the app to delete unnecessary files.
- Reinstall the app.
If you have an Android device:
- Go to Settings and select Applications.
- Then search Facebook and go to Storage.
- Tap Clear Cache at the bottom right of your screen.
7. Update the Facebook app on iOS or Android
Sometimes older versions of an app contain issues and bugs that are fixed in newer versions. If you’re using an older version of Facebook, notifications may not load correctly.
Go to your Play Store or App Store and search Facebook. If an update is planned, you will see a message Update . If not, that means the Facebook app is already up to date.
8. Update your Android or iPhone
Phone updates aren’t just battery drainers that take up space on your phone. There are many reasons why you need to update your iPhone or Android device. From fixing bugs to speeding up data processing, updates have many benefits.
To update your iPhone, go to Settingsopen General, and tap Software update. Your device will install all available updates and ask for a software update. Restart.
To update your Android device, go to your device Settings. Scroll down to Software update and tap Download and install. If a software update is available, you will be given the option to Update your phone.
Fixes to your phone’s system can help you fix the issue of Facebook notifications not loading.
9. Reinstall Facebook on your smartphone
If nothing seems to work, try reinstalling the app. Delete Facebook from your phone. When you reinstall Facebook, Fresh Start will give you better performance and notifications will load much faster.
