The Popular Resistance and Rebellion Bloc (BRP) backed Nicolás Maduro’s victory in Venezuela last Sunday; the Salvadoran social movement rejected the “coup plan” that the far right is trying to carry out.
According to the BRP, Venezuela’s electoral system “has proven its reliability for more than 20 years, but the far-right opposition only accepts the results when it wins, as happened during the 2006 referendum for constitutional reform and in the 2015 elections for the National Assembly. When it loses, as has happened more than 20 times, the opposition alleges fraud.”
On Sunday evening, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was seeking his third term, was declared the winner by the country’s National Electoral Council (CNE).
The far-right opposition “has once again demonstrated that it does not believe in elections or in the democratic system. If it has participated in elections it is because its coup adventures always fail, but it will not renounce violence to try to reverse the revolution,” the BRP commented.
The social movement concluded that, with Maduro’s new victory, “the revolution will once again isolate the rabid and failed opposition. The Venezuelan people will not allow the fascists to govern.”
