ROME “My job as political leader ends here.” This afternoon, at 5pm, at the Temple of Hadrian Luigi Di Maio announces his resignation from driving the M5S. A total tear. Much more than the classic “step to the side”, as people now say. The Foreign Minister will also leave the role of head of the Grill delegation to the government. In its place, the promotion of Stefano Patuanelli, owner of Economic Development and in excellent relations with Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, is very likely. Alternatively the name of Alfonso Bonafede is mentioned.
The announcement is expected on the sidelines of the presentation of the pentastellate regional facilitators, the last piece of the reform of the Movement, voted on Monday on Rousseau.

Di Maio summons the M5S ministers: the hypothesis regency starts
Thus ends – at least for now – the era of the leader Di Maio, which began on 30 September 2017, in Italia 5 Stelle in Rimini. A Bulgarian success – 30 thousand votes out of 37 thousand – which marked the passage of the scepter from Beppe Grillo to the enfant prodige of Pomigliano. “Greetings: now they are your cabbages,” was the joke of the founder. Which will now remain the guarantor of a movement without a guide. By statute, the regent of the main party of the majority becomes Vito Crimi, currently undersecretary of the interior. “Vito worked in a court registry, so he will be an excellent bureaucrat”, yesterday the top managers of an M5S who now find themselves without a boss tried to play down. Di Maio is “tired of the stabbings” of the rebels, but also of the attitude of the “colonels” who are taking the pentastellates to the center left. That “reformist perimeter” that the former vice-premier at the time of the yellow-green government with Matteo Salvini just cannot digest.
THE DAY
Di Maio yesterday spent the day at the Farnesina with his closest collaborators to file, word for word, his “farewell” message. And above all he sent a message in Emilia Romagna: he canceled any election scheduled for the weekend in view of the regional ones. Behind the move of the now ex-political leader there is the will to “take no more slaps” on Sunday night, when the ballot boxes of the two regional events will relegate the Movement to percentages of around 5%. “I took sides not to introduce ourselves, the network decided more, but I will not act as a lightning rod.”
Before the official announcement in the afternoon, Di Maio summoned the M5S ministers and undersecretaries to 10 at Palazzo Chigi. Thus a story already written and in the air has been consumed for some time. The implosion of the Movement starts with the flight of parliamentarians.
Yesterday it was the turn of Michele Nitti and Nadia Aprile (in the crosshairs for the failed returns and in the air of expulsion). With this couple, 31 parliamentarians elected on the M5s lists who, for various reasons, have passed to other parliamentary groups, or have left, since the legislature began.
Among these, there are 14 deputies who met in the Chamber of the Mixed group where, once they reach 20, they can formally aspire to form a new parliamentary group. Maybe around Lorenzo Fioramonti and the project in progress of «Eco» which continues to tour Italy by presenting his latest book the World after the GDP.
But today, meanwhile, a much more complicated page is being written: the M5S World after Di Maio. An unknown scenario, for the grillini, but also for the majority and therefore the government.
