The resigning government of Mark Rutte will nominate Wopke Hoekstra, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to replace Frans Timmermans in the European Commission. This has been confirmed by Prime Minister Rutte after reports in “The Financial Times”. Timmermans is stepping down as Vice-President of the Commission to make his comeback to Dutch national politics.
