Resignation? What’s going on with Boris Johnson?

British MPs have ordered a parliamentary inquiry into Prime Minister Boris Johnson for alleged lies about whether he violated restrictions imposed by the coronavirus by attending unauthorized parties during the lockdown, world news agencies reported.

The decision was taken without an official vote in the lower house of the British Parliament, instead the deputies shouted “yes”. No ruling party lawmaker objected to the investigation.

However, it will start only after the end of the current police investigation into possible cases of violation of the rules for fighting coronavirus at the residence of the Prime Minister. As a result, the parliamentary privileges committee will investigate whether Johnson deliberately misled parliament. If proven, that would be a reason for him to resign.

The investigation intensifies pressure on the conservative British prime minister, who is accused of ignoring the rules of the lockdown, which he himself imposed on the country, and then did not admit, the Associated Press notes. The opposition Labor Party has proposed launching an investigation.
