Resignation of Rutte III: Finally a New Beginning

Finally

Social

Do you remember? January 2021. The cabinet that had done its best for years to cover up and justify one of the greatest misdeeds by our government, finally resigned. But Mark Rutte, who was ultimately responsible for the misery, again became the leader of the VVD. The CDA first chose Hugo de Jonge, who had tried to sensitize Pieter Omtzigt as minister, but he was succeeded by Wopke Hoekstra, who as minister had tried to sensitize Pieter Omtzigt. Gert-Jan Segers, who had swallowed melons on behalf of the ChristenUnie, also stayed. At D66 (and the NPO, with the blessing of D66 member Shula Rijxman) Sigrid Kaag promised New Leadership.

The outgoing cabinet considered itself indispensable in the corona crisis, which we managed to get out of thanks to vaccines (which arrived too late), boosters (which arrived too late) and the omikron variant, while in the meantime almost every promise about the lack of vaccination urge was broken. There was an election campaign that was never an election campaign, elections came, and then came Function Elsewhere. Then our ways parted. Then Segers promised a new administrative culture. That new management culture did not materialize. There was a cabinet that consisted of exactly the same parties as the cabinet that had expressed so solemn regret for the benefits scandal, with largely the same people. A cabinet that should never have come and was on a collision course from the start.

But now Segers is gone. Now De Jonge is gone. Hoekstra is now gone. Now Ruth is gone. And now Kaag is gone. The long Rutte III cabinet has finally truly left. It is time for something new.
