This morning there was a fire in a porch flat in Schiedam. A number of residents could not leave the building and had to be brought to safety by the fire brigade.
The fire broke out in an apartment on the ground floor around 10.45 a.m., regional broadcaster reports Rijnmond. The windows popped and the fire exploded from the building.
The six houses in the porch apartment were evacuated. An unknown number of people on the first and second floors were removed from their homes with a cherry picker. A number of cats and a dog were also brought to safety.
The fire was under control around noon. Four people were examined by the ambulance personnel for inhaling smoke. They did not have to go to the hospital.
