Since Monday evening, crack users have been contained by the police in Aeolus’ garden, a place drug addicts used to frequent during the day before migrating 500 meters further towards the Stalingrad district at night. The public garden is now open to them until 1:00 a.m. “We’ve been strangers in this park for a year”, assured Celik Nadia, a 43-year-old auxiliary childcare worker, who joined the mobilization with her two children aged 11 and 9.
She testified to her “anger” against the decision of the authorities of “Park” there drug addicts. For the resident of rue d’Aubervilliers who frequented the place several times a week with her children, only one solution: “We must free the park”. After several speeches and a short parade in the Eole garden, the residents received a visit from the deputy of the 19th arrondissement of Paris, Mounir Mahjoubi (LREM). The latter considered that the measures announced by the authorities, to force crack users to stay inside the park, were not effective for the moment.
The LREM spokesperson recalled his wish to set up a lower-risk consumption room near the Invalides (17th arrondissement). “The town hall has proposed a place here (in the north-east of Paris, editor’s note), I don’t believe that the solution is always to offer in this district”, at-il dit à l’AFP.
