Residents of Singkawang Suspected Monkeypox Treated at RSUD Soedarso Pontianak

PONTIANAKiNews.id – A City resident SingkawangWest Kalimantan is suspected to be infected monkey pox or Monkeypox. The patient is under treatment Soedarso Hospital Pontianak.

The head of the West Kalimantan Health Service, Dr. Hary Agung TJ, confirmed that there was a suspected monkeypox patient at the Soedarsono Hospital. According to him, the patient has been treated since June 14, 2022.

“It is suspected that this monkey disabled patient is the first in West Kalimantan,” he said, Friday (17/6/2022).

Hary said the patient had been subjected to physical and laboratory examinations. This is to determine whether the patient has been exposed to monkeypox or ordinary smallpox.

“The characteristics of monkeypox are somewhat more severe than normal smallpox, because the lumps contain more water than ordinary smallpox with symptoms of fever, weakness, chills and so on,” he said.

According to Hary, monkeypox can be transmitted from rodents such as rats, squirrels, including the monkeys themselves. The mode of transmission can be due to the bite or scratch of the animal.

“For transmission, it can be through saliva splashes and others. If there is this case, the patient must be immediately isolated,” he said.
