Residents of La Florida Neighborhood Take Action Against Crime in Riobamba

Residents of the La Florida neighborhood toured the streets of October 12 and June 5 in Riobamba, with the aim of scaring away possible criminals who live in the area.

Through a peaceful march, residents raised their voices to bring down the criminals who live in the area, since they assure that there is a group of Venezuelans who prowl the streets of the neighborhood. “We are tired of crime, it is not possible that people from other places come to our city to intimidate us. Two days ago my mother was robbed in the corner of the house, they threatened her and took away her belongings”, said Jacinto Flores, a resident.

With bats, sticks, irons and other tools, the residents shouted: ‘caught thief will be burned’; ‘We are united against crime’. In addition, he indicated that all the residents of the neighborhood are gathered, because each family in this place has already had an unpleasant moment with criminals, who are from the same neighborhood. “A group of thieves live on 9 de Octubre and we don’t know if the tenants rented the place knowingly or what is happening; Today we have decided to go make noise in those places so that they have a little fear and do not continue to scare our neighbors,” stressed Xavier Hernández, a resident.

According to the statements of Luisa Martínez, they already know who the possible criminals would be, “there are three Venezuelans, one is a tall boy with a dark complexion, there is a white, skinny, tall, with curly hair and a blemish on his face; and the other person is a woman, ”she said, who ended by recounting her experience with criminals. “The other day my daughter was leaving the ‘Isabel de Godín’ Institute, they have cornered her and told her that they are the owners of the neighborhood and that they have to give her USD 2.00 daily; I wonder how it is possible that criminals from other places come to intimidate our children? ”, she stressed.

The residents of La Florida would have made the corresponding complaint to the authorities, however, the response has not been favorable, because according to the Police Station there are not enough patrols to carry out the respective follow-up, since there are several neighborhoods that the authority provides security.
