Residents of Gaza Strip Refuse to Leave Enclave During Fighting: Hamas Leader

Residents of the Gaza Strip will not leave the enclave during the fighting and will not take refuge in Egypt. This was stated today, October 14, by the head of the Politburo of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh.

“The Palestinian people have the right to live on their land. There will be no escape from Gaza, there will be no escape from the West Bank [реки Иордан], there will be no flight from Gaza to Egypt. “I tell my brothers in Egypt that our decision is to stay on our land and resist the Zionist plan supported by the American administration,” he said.

Hamas called on residents to ignore Israel’s recommendation to leave the sector. The movement also asked the UN to take action against forced displacement.

President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas in negotiations with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in the Jordanian capital said it rejected the “forced displacement” of the population of Gaza.

The representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said that the Israeli authorities warned of the need to evacuate to the south of the Gaza Strip within 24 hours. Hamas fighters are hiding in tunnels under houses and in civilian buildings, IDF officials said. The requirement also applies to “all UN staff and those who have taken refuge in UN agencies.”
